Hello!
I just got done with our 9th class in the first week, it's friday, I still have not sat down once during class, i feel like the camp champ! One more class to go tomorrow on Saturday, then 1.5 days off:)
tonight was an awesome class. Bikram taught and i am so close to two things, touching my head on the ground in separate leg stretching and touching my chest to my legs in stretching posture (seated). My hips are getting more flexible. I'm getting really strong in triangle. we are packed in like sweaty sardines. lines are painted on the ground in the classroom and we are instructed to put our mats halfway on the lines. So when boss (bikram) says everybody together, feet together at the line, we all line up in the center of our mats. during the standing leg stretches everyone cheats and uses their neighbors mats and towels (because we are so close) to step on for strength (our feet slip on the carpet) during triangle, etc.. the first day i used my neighbors mats, since i've improved tremendously. i've graduated to the white painted line for a bit of grip under my feet but i'm getting stronger and not slipping anymore. its nice to see in the first week!
oh today, we were doing fixed firm pose, and bikram was pushing us to go down backwards, speaking directly to this guy from london, go down, go down, get down, and the after we got out of the posture, the guy yelled, that was my first time ever in 4.5 years to go back!! everyone clapped. so bikram had him do it by himself with everyone watching. bikram ran over to him (off his pedestal) and jumped on his hips and did a little dance, london guy was yelling in excitment, we all clapped, it was great entertainment!
we had such a great class, not so many are puking or passing out anymore! Bikram gave us the friday night off! we clapped, can't belive it. so i may go watch the optional bollywood movie with some friends with bikram in the lecture hall.
after class though it's like walking through hell, you first walk out of the room into a lounge area that has some fans, plastic furniture, and our cubbies. people are laying like dead all over. some are hunched over trash cans puking, some are just cramping up while others are moaning. i hate it. bad mojo. i get out as fast as i can. after class i was sitting on the grass with my friend right outside the studio building enjoying the cool air before i headed back to my room, and a woman was dragged out by two staff members, she was barely conscious, arms were curled up cramping. insanity.
This morning class with Lynn a senior teacher was actually hard. i saw myself in the mirror as i was in the 4th row (usually im about 5 or 6). it sucked! seeing myself, i felt and saw my body and nothing seemed right or felt right. it was a tough class. my body was tired and mentally not strong. I did all the poses, but felt exhausted. the teachers are getting tougher on us and our lazy and undisciplined habits during class. Lynn the teacher was on our case to stay standing, not to lie down, or even drink water! I'm okay on all of those. my water is about 105 degrees anyway, it doesn't do anything for me. she explained that the water we drink all day is what hydrates us during class, the water we drink in class, goes right out our pores and does nothing for us. it's just a crutch.
some other rules we have during class, we must remain in savasana at the end of class until the teacher dismisses us and then we can only leave the room after the teacher leaves. on monday and tuesday it was so damn hot and i was so anxious to get the hell out of there. now it's a piece of cake, i actually enjoy lying there talking with friends waiting for the crowd to slow down.
during lecture/posture clinics (we are only watching half moons) the staff has to patrol the room making sure no one is sleeping, eating, or putting their feet on the wall or chairs in front of them. you'd be surprised how many people are not paying attention. bikram says the funniest shit i've heard, keeps me entertained and awake.
during half moon - we are still watching all 300+ recite their half moon dialogue on stage - one girl went up and said her dialogue really, hmm, wishy washy, like she didn't care, her body language was not good. So bikram said to her, you are sounding like an idiot, you don't care, you have peoples lives in your hands this is important, she didn't take it well, and started again, half way through, she stopped and said wow you really distracted me calling me an idiot then said fuck it and continued. . the room was silent. could not believe her attitude. shocking!
my friend who went up after her said she was a bit complaining in line. not bought into bikram and his craziness. great entertainment though! anything can happen when people pushed to their limits.
oh and one korean girl was on stage (ps there are people from ALL OVER the world here!) reciting her half moon and her accent was soo strong we could barely understand her. Bikram takes the lollipop out of his mouth and says, here, you put this in your mouth and you will speak just like an american. so the girl hesitantly put the lollipop in her mouth, spoke, and it was unbelievable her accent was gone! three more people go by and another asian is speaking, bikram had the girl who had the lollipop pass it on to the next girl to speak with, so a third mouth on the lollipop, but hey, no accent! it was so funny. everybody clapped.
as i heard one yogi say behind me, we are clapping monkeys. we clap for everything. class ending, a speaker on stage, leaving stage, funny joke, EVERYTHING. i'm so tired of clapping.
tomorrow saturday after 8am morning class, my day off, i'll recap the week, get some pictures up and write down all the funny funny stuff about bikram. he is classic. i wish everyone could spend a week learning about life from him. it's great and pretty damn funny.
i'm off to watch a bollywood movie. . . clap clap clap
