1 down 99 to go!!

I just finished my first bikram yoga class!!!

my thoughts:

The room is like a giant walmart or costco minus the supplies. think fluorescent lights and mirrors everywhere. Now add 105 or more degrees and 70% humidity. oh and pack in over 315 people like sweaty salty sardines and flip and flop for over 1.5 hours.

Yes, welcome to bikrams torture chamber!

tonight's class - 2 hours!!! he says it was the easiest class he has ever taught. i actually believe him. He really took his time, gave us lots of rest in between postures, and was very patient compared to what i have heard. people still went down on their backs by standing forehead to knee (non yogis that is the like the 4th or 5th pose out of 26). one guy, jason (only because his mat was labeled jason), was sleeping on his mat by the middle of the class. one girl was on her back the entire first class!!!

one more weird thing about doing yoga with over 300 people.

lying on my back lying alongside a massive amount of people looking at the square tiles on the ceiling with the fluorescent lights and hearing the drone of the heaters it makes me think i'm on a spaceship sometime in the future and i hear the same voice barking orders over a loud speaker, then at the same time we all exhale and sit up into the same position. it's really really weird and cult like.

after class my buddies and i ran down to the ocean as the sun was setting and jumped in. it was amazing, amazing, amazing. it reminded me of when i was in high school and was at a party with some close friends in redondo beach, it was past midnight and we all ran down to the pier and jumped in the dark waters. i miss the ocean! it's great to be here.
we all took turns practicing half-moon in the waves.

now it's fiesta time, not for me, but for mexico. i can hear the mariachi band right now outside my door! it's so beautiful and amazing to be here for the mexican indepence holiday!

ok, my class for the yogis

i actually felt great, i didnt' sit once or feel the need to. i felt very hydrated.
i felt at about 80-85% bikram told us the first week to 'take it easy honey' so i did.

i rocked out my easiest poses
triangle
dead body - of course
wind removing
fixed firm
half tortoise
and camel - i can even thought i know i'm not stellar at it

i struggled with
most of the standing - i think i am very weak with my standing series dealing with hamstring and left side/knee issues
awkward - he held it long and i think i favor my right side too much
standing to knee - my left leg and knee just plain sucks
balancing stick- this was my first interaction with a foot almost touching my nose - the man in front of me - it threw me off and i need to let the people bumping into me go!
cobra/locust/full locust - again i touched everyone around me and they touched me
spine twisting - he really took time on this pose and made sure everyone was doing it right - it was very hard to get my body in perfect position which i see how much i need to improve in everything - looking forward to the challenge.

ok gotta go skype. . class at 8:30am tomorrow

this sounds absolutely amazing...
i'm new to yoga (within the last 12 months) and though i have not done bikram yet - i hope to. i've got a friend who has tried it a few times and i'm very intrigued. yoga has helped me so much in the last year in both mind, body and spirit - and being a non-granola, republican (GASP!) i was really surprised how i took to it, and by both how challenging it is, yet how easy some of it is in comparison to my initial resistance and intimidation of it was. i totally get why people are addicted. looking forward to hearing more about your experiences in mexico!
