It's Friday!!!! One more class tomorrow morning then 1.5 days rest. 11 classes in 6 days!
I'll be stocking up on food and study, study, study!!! We have a big anatomy test on Monday and starting with the next posture - hands to feet pose. I also plan to fix our drying system on the balcony tomorrow. I wash my yoga clothes with laundry soap in the shower twice a day to save on Laundry then dry them on the balcony. We have a laundry service that costs like 50 pesos per Kilo - about 5$. I use it once a week and don't usually have much. We just make a list of our clothing and put it in a special bag before morning class then pick it up the next day. I know previous teachers had it rougher in the past. I appreciate what you went through.
Classes are much better with my strength. I just needed to eat more. I'm starting to have a bit of anxiety near the end of class. I feel myself having a surge of energy when we are supposed to be still, then feeling anxious and wanting to leave the room. I wonder what kind of hormones are being released inside my body and why? I hope it passes. One girl next to me started to hyperventilate today then calmed herself down. I actually got up and went over to staff who was on hand quickly. Everyone is doing a great job helping and working together. In the second week everyone is already stronger and improving mentally and physically. Our bodies are still reacting to the exercise and schedule up and down like waves.
PS. I've been doing the sit up WRONG! You are supposed to think rabbit pose and curl/roll your lower back forward when you come up with your arms/head together. I have tons of tips I'll post- I'm also working really hard on contracting my quad when locking the knee in any standing leg pose - I suck at that too.
We have had some amazing speakers. One woman with 30 years in speech and psychology and several books gave a wonderful seminar on how to teach and present yourself better using your voice and body language. We are learning about the history and philosophy of Yoga as well. Its so interesting. All the teachers here are amazing.
Lots of info on how to be great teachers, communicators and business people. Some is new, some is reiterating the knowledge I have from coaching and being an athlete. I'm really looking forward to teaching Bikram Yoga when I get back. The things it can do for your body and your life. Yoga is a gift of life. It will give you your life. I love seeing people's health improve in the studio I practice at. The stories of peoples health improving through Bikram Yoga are amazing.
We treat our bodies so horrible in America. We treat our cars, Ipods, computers, pets better than ourselves! I always hear people complaining about their health, job, life, etc.. Why do we not take more time to teach our children confidence, self-esteem and the life skills necessary to make smart choices for themselves in order to live a long healthy life? Why don't we make these choices for ourselves?
The choices I'm talking about free healthy things like exercise, relaxing, breathing, living, taking time for yourself, massage, hobbies, vacation (even its is a staycation in your own town), surrounding yourself with great people, doing things that you enjoy or the things you wish.
I was a workaholic, from sun up to sun down, which is easy to do in coaching. Easy to put in a 60+ hour work week. Recruiting, traveling, playing, practicing, lessons, camps, office work, win, win, win. It took a move to Europe, enjoying their culture, and having a great boss/friend with a grasp on balancing work and life to keep me in line. I still find myself overextending my time. Right up until I left for Mexico.
All this Yoga has got me thinking:) I'll probably blush later sharing this sappy stuff.
I'm so glad I"m surrounded with good friends here too! There is no drama. My friends are all stable and healthy individuals. So positive. I hear stories of bad roommates, drama between people, and lots and lots of bitching about everything! From the food, the elevator, the heat, the rain, this is too that, that is too this, you name it! It's unbelievable how people can focus on so much on crap that is so temporary. If it's not gonna bother you when your 70, get over it! Life is too short!
Do something great for you today:)
